Weekly Summary 9/25/2015

Not gonna lie, I was dreading this week. I saw that we were focusing on audio this week and I thought “I don’t want to do this. I don’t know how to do this. I’m gonna totally fail this week.” but I decided to start by downloading Audacity and playing around with it. I watched some tutorials on YouTube and decided to try my hand at it. It turned out to be really fun and not as hard as I thought it was gonna be. It helped that I listened to all four radio shows this week so I could get a better sense of audio and how it is used when pictures aren’t used with it. Here were some of the highlights from the radio shows:

Monday night:

Tuesday night:

Wednesday night:

Thursday night:

I then decided to try my hand at making my own radio bumper since I had heard some on DS106 radio. Now that I had some experience at creating audio, I decided to translate a page from the “Last Laugh” from Tales of the Crypt into audio. I enjoyed this assignment because I chose the first page of the story and got to set the tone for the entire story. I also thought of some cool ideas for the radio show we have to run later in the semester and thought about how I could entertain an audience for 30 minutes. I then got to reflect on the audio storytelling that we have exposed ourselves to this week. Included in my Audio Storytelling post is my discussion of the podcast “Moon Graffiti” and the Alien: Audio-Biomechanics reading.

The daily creates I did this week were really fun. September 20ths daily create was to create a story from 5 pictures.

September 21sts daily create was to put a print all over a picture of me.

September 22nds daily create was to put someone on Abbey Road.

I really enjoyed the assignment bank assignments this week. I was apprehensive to start them but decided that since we only had to do 10 stars I would just dive in. I decided to do three assignments since I found a 4 star assignment I liked and I already had to do a 3 star assignment, so I found another 3 star assignment that I wanted to do. The 3 star assignment that I had to do was to create a story using at least 5 sound effects and relate it to your host character. I also found a 4 star assignment I wanted to do which was to make a minute long audio clip that scared the listener or was Halloween themed. The final 3 star assignment I decided to do was to display an emotion through sound effects. Even though I was dreading this week, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I discovered that I love listening to and creating sound clips and can’t wait for my next audio assignment.
