Change in Tradition

For this video assignment I had to make a video of something that I love. The thing I love most about my family is how we always follow traditions while also changing things up sometimes. The perfect example of this was Easter 2015 when we decided that my brother and I would hide the Easter eggs outside and my parents would hunt them. We had a blast and my parents got to reminisce in the past while my brother and I got a break from looking for all of those eggs.

I chose my favorite 8 pictures from the day and put them in chronological order of when they were taken, so you can follow along in the hunt for all of the eggs. I also decided I wanted to make a title slide to introduce the video so I imported an Easter egg border into Gimp and typed out the title of the video in a light green color because it was spring time. I then uploaded it to YouTube and found the background to add to it. I chose this song because it is upbeat and happy like that day was but also edgy which showed that we were changing tradition. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment and thought it turned out pretty well.

Weekly Summary 10/23/2015

This week was a bit crazy since it was also Homecoming week but I ended up getting everything done. Listening to everyone’s show was really cool. I loved listening to the 3rd Millennium Countdown. The Daily Creates were really fun this week. October 21sts daily create was to make a stick figure out of something from nature.

October 22nds daily create was to find something that is pretty on the outside but hides something bad.

October 23rds daily create was to remove something from a famous painting.

The assignment bank assignments were fun this week because we could choose the genre. We had to do 10 stars using our host character and another host character from our class. I decided to do 5 stars from the visual genre and 5 stars from the writing genre. The first visual assignment I did was to make a picture from 4 lines, 5 dots, and 1 curve which was 3 stars. The second visual assignment I did was to visualize something scary that I wouldn’t want to see outside of my window which was 2 stars. The first writing assignment I did was to write a story that starts with the ending which was 2 stars. The second writing assignment I did was to write a letter to a friend which was 3 stars.

3rd Millennium Countdown Review

Not gonna lie, it was weird listening to my group’s show but not as weird listening to a classmate’s show as I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed listening to the 3rd Millennium Countdown because it was something different than just telling scary stories. I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it very much because I prefer listening to stories that keep me intrigued. However, I found it very fascinating to hear about horror movies that I haven’t seen before. In case you missed it Thursday evening, you can find it here:

The only two movies that were discussed that I have seen were The Purge and The Amityville Horror. I agreed with the thoughts on these movies and loved that they included the overall money that each movie made. I also liked that each person used sound clips from the movies either in the background or as a break between reviews. I enjoyed the placement of the commercials and bumpers as well because they broke up the talking. Overall, this was a very well put together show and I liked the different direction they took with the reviews instead of telling horror stories.

Letter to Bridget

For this writing assignment I had to write a letter to a friend. I decided to take on the role of my host character. I wrote as if I was Eve Winters and she was writing to her pen-pal Bridget Lloyd.

I decided to write the letter in red because Bridget was locked in an insane asylum for years and her favorite color is red, so I wanted her to see some color when she reads the letter instead of the dull black, white, and gray she has been surrounded by. In case you can’t read my handwriting, because it is awful, the letter reads:

October 22, 2015

Dear Bridget,

Long time, no see. I’m hoping to be able to visit London soon. Let me know what time works best for you. Have you seen your friend, Johanna, lately? I’m sure she misses you. Maybe she can visit you when I do so I can finally meet her. You have told me so much about her. She sounds absolutely marvelous. On another note, my brother is getting worse. He can’t seem to stop killing and skinning people. He is hiding out in my basement for the night because the police are searching his house. I have decided to kick him out in the morning because I don’t want to be associated with his crimes. He showed me his latest mask from a group of teenage girls that he killed a couple of days ago. It was hideous. I wanted to barf because it smelled so bad. He even tried to make a wig out of the blonde girl’s hair. Needless to say he failed and the hair is falling out. I will be cleaning up hair for weeks. I can’t believe I let him stay here. He’s only my half-brother. I should have let him rot like his disgusting masks. He is definitely going to be kicked out in the morning. Anyway, that’s what I’m up to lately. How have you been? What have you been doing lately? Don’t forget to get back to me on when I should come visit you.

Eve Winters

This assignment was really fun because I got to pretend to be my host character writing to my friend’s host character. It was difficult to think of what to write, so I focused on Eve wanting to visit Bridget and talking about the trouble that her brother has gotten into, since she is directly involved. Overall, this assignment was difficult but allowed me to be creative in my writing.

Story Time

For this writing assignment I had to write a story starting with the ending and then going back to the beginning. I decided to write a story that combined my host character and two of my friend’s host characters.

Bridget asks the Death Whisperer why she is in Johnny’s basement. The Death Whisperer replied “I looked for you at your house but you weren’t there. So I followed you here to America and decided to stop by at Johnny’s place.” Bridget asked her why she was looking for her and got the response “I’ve been waiting to take you with me and now that I have found you we can go together.”

Eve Winters was on her way to the airport to pick-up her friend, Bridget Lloyd. Bridget was visiting from London and hadn’t seen Eve in a while. They were pen-pals and had visited each other and became friends because they both have dark pasts. Eve’s older half-brother was the serial killer Bloody Face and Bridget was locked in an insane asylum because her father didn’t want her after her mother died. On the drive back to Eve’s house the girls were talking about what they had been up to lately. They got to Eve’s house and Bridget was settling in when Johnny, Eve’s older half-brother, called her. He said that he needed help and that Eve should get to his house as soon as possible.

Eve and Bridget jumped back in the car and went over to Johnny’s house. When they got there, Johnny directed them to his basement. There was a little girl sitting in the middle of the floor in Johnny’s basement, facing away from the stairs. Eve was about to yell at Johnny because she thought he had killed the little girl and needed help cleaning up the body when the little girl said something peculiar. “Hello Bridget. Long time, no see” the little girl moaned. Eve looked at Bridget’s face, stunned, and Bridget replied to the little girl with “Death Whisperer? It surely has been a while hasn’t it?” Eve was still staring at Bridget when she asked “you know this little girl?” and Bridget replied with “Yeah, she was my constant companion in Fogg’s Asylum.”

This assignment was really difficult because I didn’t even know where to begin my story or what to write about. I decided who I wanted to include in the story and then went from there. Overall, this assignment really pushed me to be more creative and think backwards by starting with the end.

Window Wanderer

For this visual assignment I had to show what would be scary to see outside a window. I decided to use my friend’s host character, the Death Whisperer, because she is extremely scary.

Window Assignment

I took the picture of the Death Whisperer from my friend’s blog and cut out the background from the picture. I then found a cool looking window and put the Death Whisperer in the window. This required a lot of changing of the size of the Death Whisperer because she was rather small to begin with. I enjoyed this assignment because I got to stray from Bloody Face for awhile, since I have been using him a lot.

Abstract Face

For this visual assignment I had to create something out of 4 lines, 5 dots, and 1 curve. I decided to make this assignment about my host character’s older brother, Johnny, who becomes Bloody Face after following his father’s footsteps.

Bloody Face Mask

I used 1 dot as the face, 2 dots as the eye holes in the mask, and 2 dots as Johnny’s eyes behind the mask. I used the 4 lines as pieces of hair coming out of the mask. I used the 1 curve as the smile that is cut out of the mask. I decided to also make my friend’s host character. Bridget is a girl who was locked in Mr. Fogg’s mental asylum in Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

I used the 4 lines as the bars that kept her locked in the asylum. I used one dot as Bridget’s head, 1 dot as her body, 2 dots as her legs, and 1 as one of her arms. The curve is her bent arm as she tries to figure out how to escape. Overall, this assignment was very fun while also being challenging to figure out how to portray two characters in 4 lines, 5 dots, and 1 curve.

Weekly Showcase #1

Hey guys! This is your host, Eve Winters, and this week I wanted to focus on reveling in the past. There is so much history in this great country and I find it fascinating to look back on.

American Timeline

This is why I will be highlighting the best works from the daily create that we had on Friday, October 16th, 2015. Our timeline starts in the 1860s with the Civil War. This time period was submitted by Miles Davis.

I liked that Miles tied in our school to the era as well. It really brings out the significance of the time period and how it affects us today. Our next time period on our timeline is from the 1870s to the 1900s with the Gilded Age. This time period was submitted by Glen Cochrane.

The picture that Glen chose was beautiful and captured the essence of the Gilded Age, the introduction of new things that brought large groups of people together. The next time period in our timeline is the 1940s with World War II. This time period was submitted by Jerome Mueller.

Jerome’s background story is unbelievably realistic and truly brings you into the time period. The picture he includes is hilarious but, along with the background story, shows how much work was put into this hoax. Our next time period is from the 1940s to the 1950s with the prime time of Rock and Roll. This time period was submitted by We’reAllInsaneHere.

I loved this submission because Elvis is a true symbol of Rock and Roll and this time period (excuse the pun) ROCKED!!!! I’m not kidding though, this time period put America above all other countries in the world. Our final time period is the 1990s. This time period was submitted by Caleb Snow.

This submission was super cool since I was born in the 1990s and don’t remember much of the fashion from back then. But if you think about it, without this crazy fashion time we wouldn’t have the awesome fashion trends that we have now. This rounds out my timeline for this week. I hope you all enjoyed going back in time with me and keep up the good work everybody.

Weekly Summary 10/16/2015

This week was super fun. I enjoyed the challenge of making a radio show and loved the group I was in. It seemed like every time we talked about our show we were all on the same page. I detailed how our group made our radio show and how we divided the work. You can listen to our final radio show below:

I wasn’t a huge fan of the daily creates this week but they definitely made me think and try to be creative. October 14ths daily create was to make a bad habit into a positive.

October 15ths daily create was to describe your luckiest day.

October 16ths daily create was to find an image of your favorite era in history.

Radio Show…Check!

Luckily the radio show portion of this week was more simple than last week. It was more work, but since we had everything already figured out and outlined in our Google doc it was easier to get things done. We met once on Thursday to finalize our ideas and help each other get the scripts for our portions written. We also decided that since I have no classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday that I would combine everyone’s audio clips into the final radio show that we made. Overall, this project was really fun but very stressful. I liked that we had to make the bumpers for our shows earlier in the semester because that took off a lot of the stress. I ended up making my commercial before my main section of the show as well to get the little things out of the way so I could focus on my main section of our show. I enjoyed putting everyone’s audio clips together because I like being organized and since I am a perfectionist I could pay attention to the details. I hope you guys enjoy our final product.
